Bio
I grew up in New Jersey and graduated from Harvard in 1987 with a degree in Applied Math & Computer Science. After spending 17 years as an actuary in the property-casualty insurance industry, I decided that I'd rather apply math to the world of fantasy sports than the world of insurance. Combining the analytical abilities I'd developed as an actuary with my lifelong love of sports, I launched the websites
Fantasy Baseball Sherpa and
Fantasy Football Sherpa.
In the course of publicizing my fantasy baseball and football sites to fantasy sports enthusiasts I began to rely heavily on social media tools such as blogs, Facebook, and Twitter. I was able to parlay the resulting exposure I received from those efforts into writing opportunities with
The Huffington Post and
USAToday.com's fantasy baseball blog.
Many people began to ask me for advice on using social media to market their businesses and their causes; sensing an opportunity, I launched Sherpa Social Media in October of 2010.
In addition to the work I've done with clients I've been interviewed about social media on The Martha Stewart Living Sirius/XM Radio channel and
OM.com. I've also been quoted in an article about social media that appeared on
Inc.com, and I'll be speaking about social media at the International Order of the Golden Rule's convention in April 2012 in Alexandria, Virginia.
I am based in New York City and am available for interviews, speaking engagements, and guest-blogging opportunities. Please email me at Scott@SherpaSocialMedia.com or call me at 646-483-3393.
